Visit San Francisco in the First-Ever GPS-Guided Storytelling Car®

Details

Tackle the hills, squeeze into small parking spaces and hear about the sights in a completely different way. See San Francisco from a new perspective in one of the first-ever GPS-guided storytelling cars that you drive around town while they talk to you.

Perhaps you’ve seen the bright yellow cars in Barcelona and Madrid, Lisbon and San Diego...but, we’re not surprised that the edgy new concept known as “the cure for the common tour” started in San Francisco.

How it Works

Helmets on and are you ready for an adventure? There are two ways to go -- guided by GPS or striking out on your own. Or, you can try a bit of both in the same tour.

Set your own pace, stop along the way, go for an hour or go out for a whole day.

Where to go

A one-hour loop covers Chinatown and Downtown. The popular two-hour tour takes you through the Marina District and The Presidio, a fabulous historic park with stunning bridge and bay views. This tour includes getting a really good look at the Golden Gate Bridge from practically underneath it.

Then, it’s on to see (and hear about) Alcatraz Island in the sparkling water of San Francisco Bay. You’ll visit the grassy lawn of Crissy Field on the waterfront and the romantic lagoon and picturesque century-old Palace of Fine Arts. You can go to the shores of the Pacific Ocean at Baker Beach, drive through the Presidio’s  forests, swing by Inspiration Point for its great views, stop for the Walt Disney Family Museum and more. In three hours, you can cover Golden Gate Park, too.

Extend your time to get in more sights or drive off the GPS-loaded narration on a DIY customized adventure. And, there’s a turbo-charged option that will navigate the twists and turns downhill on Lombard Street, called the crookedest street in the world as well as that 922-foot climb to the top of Twin Peaks for some of the best San Francisco views to be had anywhere.

Special packages combine GoCars with top museum visits at Golden Gate Park’s California Academy of Sciences, with the Exploratorium on the waterfront and with the Aquarium of the Bay at Pier 39. Check out midweek special offers, too.

Get started

Find your GoCar at one of two convenient locations in San Francisco at Fisherman’s Wharf (address: 431 Beach Street) or at Union Square (address: 321 Mason Street).

Parlez-vous…?

These clever GoCars are multi-lingual - tours available in 6 languages! Let them know that you’d like yours to speak Italian, Spanish, French, German or Portuguese, otherwise the default setting comes on in English.

The fine print

Two people fit into an open-topped GoCar that is gasoline-operated, getting an economical 60 miles to the gallon.

Drivers must be 21-plus with a drivers license to rent a GoCar. It’s best to reserve ahead, as the cars are popular with Bay Area residents and visitors alike.  Insurance and collision damage waiver options are available at the time of rental.

The engineering system is patented and as fun as it is unique.
